TEXTILE SOURCING GUIDE
Throw pillow development: construction, inserts and packaging
A decorative pillow brings fabric, color and construction together in a compact product. A useful development brief explains both its visual character and what the customer will receive.
Cover or complete pillow?
State whether the item is a cover only or includes an insert. Specify finished dimensions, measurement method, fabric composition and the intended feel of a filled product. Review the cover and insert together when both are supplied.
Document the construction
Identify the front and back fabrics, opening, closure and edge finish. Include the position of embroidery, prints, piping or decorative details. For directional designs, show which way the pattern should face.
Coordinate color and texture
Use physical swatches when reviewing color. If several styles will form one collection, assess them together rather than approving each in isolation. Keep the approved references accessible to the production team.
Think about the selling format
Record whether pillows are sold individually or in sets. Define packaging, labels and presentation requirements for your sales channel. Ask to review the product after unpacking as well as in its proposed packaging.
Approve one complete reference
Bring the construction, artwork, packaging and written specification together before production approval. Confirm any testing and inspection expectations for the project with the relevant teams.
