TEXTILE SOURCING GUIDE
Curtain sourcing: fabric, dimensions and finishing details
When developing a curtain collection, the fabric is only one part of the specification. The finished size, hanging method and construction all affect how the product looks and works in a room.
Describe the intended light effect
Use a physical reference to discuss sheer, light-filtering or room-darkening performance. Appearance in a photograph alone cannot confirm how much light a fabric will block. Agree on any performance requirements and how they will be evaluated before production.
Specify one panel or a pair
Record the finished width and drop for each panel, the number of panels per package and the measurement units. State whether the quoted size includes the heading and how the finished product should be measured.
Choose the heading and details
Identify the hanging method, lining, side hems and bottom hem. For patterned fabrics, clarify pattern direction and any matching requirements between panels.
Review the sample in context
Hang a sample in conditions close to its intended use. Review color in different light, drape, seams and the relationship between fabric weight and the chosen heading.
Confirm the finished package
Agree on folding, inserts, labels and care information before final approval. Keep the approved sample and written specification together as the project reference.
