TEXTILE SOURCING GUIDE
Private-label home textiles: build a clear product brief
A clear brief gives a textile development team a practical starting point. Before comparing samples, define the product you want to create and how your customer will use it.
Start with the collection
List the product categories, intended customer and overall design direction. Reference photographs can communicate texture, color and styling, but written specifications are essential for details that an image cannot show.
Make dimensions explicit
State finished measurements, units and acceptable tolerances. For U.S. programs, include inches alongside any metric measurements your team uses. Identify whether a measurement describes one piece, a filled product or a complete set.
Explain the commercial brief
Share your estimated quantity by style and color, target price range, desired delivery window and destination. These details help frame discussions about materials, construction and packaging. Confirm quotations and lead times for the specific project.
Define what the customer receives
Describe set contents, labels, inserts, packaging and any retailer-specific requirements. Include your approved artwork and identify who will review samples.
Keep a single approved specification
Record decisions as the brief develops. A current specification, supported by an approved sample, helps everyone work from the same reference.
